13 THE KNOWLEDGE OF GOD THE REDEEMER
Part Two - The Institutes of the Christian Religion

What's On This Page:

Preamble:

In this thirteenth lesson you will continue to consider 'The Knowledge of God the Redeemer,' which is book two of 'The Institutes of the Christian Religion.' For this lesson you will be required to read through chapter 3 of book two. The best approach is to read these chapters first, and then to read them again with the questions before you.

13.1 ONLY DAMNABLE THINGS COME FORTH FROM MAN'S CORRUPT NATURE:

Questions:

What is the meaning of the term 'flesh' in theology? What implications does this have for salvation from sin? Explain.

Explain the extent of man's corruption and depravity? Is man therefore as evil as he could possibly be? Explain.

Why is it that man seems unable to not sin? If man is in fact in bondage (explain the meaning of this as part of your answer), how can he be delivered from it?

If man is incapable of doing any good because of his slavery to sin, how can man ever be found in a place of salvation?

What part does man play in regeneration? What part does God play in regeneration? Give reasons for your answer.

Explain what you understand of regeneration or the new birth?

Explain the part played by both God and man in the continuance of spiritual life and perseverance in godliness?

NOTE: If you wish to email me regarding your answers to this lesson, please copy and paste them into an email (Attachments will not be opened). I will then get back to you as soon as I can (expect a delay due to various committments).
