Preamble:
In this tenth lesson you will continue to consider 'The Knowledge of God the Creator,' which is book one of 'The Institutes of the Christian Religion.' For this lesson you will be required to read chapter 16 of book one. The best approach is to read the chapter first, and then to read it again with the questions before you.
10.1 GOD BY HIS POWER NOURISHES AND MAINTAINS THE WORLD CREATED BY HIM, AND RULES ITS SEVERAL PARTS BY HIS PROVIDENCE (Chapter 16).
Questions:
Did God continue to work in the world after His creation of it? Explain what is mean't by the term, 'providence?'
Why is it unscriptural to speak of chance and luck?
Explain what is mean't by the 'natural order of things?' Is this a biblical concept? Explain.
What 'things' fall outside the realm of God's providence? Explain the implications of this teaching for believers?
Explain how much of a man's life is under the control of God's providence?
Does God have a 'secret decree?' What is mean't by this term? Is this the same as fate? Explain.
