Preamble:

In this sixth lesson you will continue to consider 'The Knowledge of God the Creator,' which is book one of 'The Institutes of the Christian Religion.' For this lesson you will be required to read chapter 13 (Parts 1-15) of book one. The best approach is to read the chapter first, and then to read it again with the questions before you.



6.1 IN SCRIPTURE, FROM THE CREATION ONWARD, WE ARE TAUGHT ONE ESSENCE OF GOD, WHICH CONTAINS THREE PERSONS (Chapter 13, Parts 1-15)

Questions:

Why is it that in Scripture God often describes Himself with human features (eg hands and feet)? Are we to take such descriptions literally? Explain?


What is mean't by God being three Persons? How many Gods are there? Explain?


Is the word 'Trinity' an acceptable description for God? Explain why you answered the way you did?


How is the 'Word' God? Explain how the Word is distinct within the Trinity? Explain the beginning of the Word?


Who is the 'Angel of the Lord' in the Old Testament? Explain the reasons for your answer?


What proof of Jesus' claim to Divinity exists in the New Testament? Please give examples.


What proof can be found of the Holy Spirit's Divinity in Scripture? Please give examples.
